Serviceman of the 123rd Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade Artur Chernikov was forced to go AWOL after encountering lawlessness.

Artur’s troubles began after he was transferred to the Uspenka training ground in occupied Luhansk Oblast. There, the company commander and political officer suggested that he take part in extorting money from newly arrived soldiers. When he refused, he was transferred to a motor rifle battalion. Things were no better there: servicemen arriving in the battalion were each demanded to pay 150,000 rubles, and those who refused to pay were beaten.

Chernikov appealed to law enforcement, and a case was even opened based on his complaint, but it led nowhere. Artur himself is still on the federal wanted list and cannot get his AWOL status removed. Because of this, he remains without pay and social benefits.

There have been a huge number of cases like this (these are only the ones that became known because the victim did not stay silent), and almost always an ordinary soldier cannot do anything. The system is built so that, “under the law,” they are more likely to find you and send you to slaughter than to punish the guilty in any way. A “delinquent” Russian soldier has only one guaranteed chance to save his life: Ukrainian captivity. Going AWOL can also be a way out, but the risk of being caught and “zeroed out” is too high. That is why we advise all Russian soldiers who have decided to go “absent without leave” to contact our project instead. Besides, in Ukrainian captivity you will continue to receive money.
