Alisher Ilyasov, born in 1989, is a rare long-liver in the Russian army. The man was mobilized back in 2022, and for almost four years he served quietly in the rear.

His unit was located in occupied Enerhodar and held the defense along the Dnipro. Alisher had to pay for his relative safety: there were constant extortions in the unit, and practically everything had to be bought at his own expense. It all ended in an instant: this spring Alisher had the imprudence to return from leave smelling of alcohol and was immediately sent as an assault soldier to another brigade.

Things there were not so rosy. After a month of training, he was sent to crawl through a pipe toward Ukrainian positions. Without supplies and without the possibility of evacuation in case of injury:

“For four days we moved through that pipe. We slept there, relieved ourselves there… Water was one liter for two or three people… There was no air there at all”

The command promised that they would be met at the exit and taken to positions. Ilyasov and his comrades were indeed met, but by Ukrainian drones. The group suffered losses and was soon surrounded. Captivity was the only sane decision in that situation, because there was nowhere to retreat, and your own artillery starts working on you.

Russian father-commanders are not driving their soldiers into the pipe of a main gas pipeline for the first time. This tactic says a lot about the Russian army, where a person is merely a tool for achieving often irrational and meaningless goals. The safety, health, and life of a Russian soldier can easily be disregarded. It does not matter how many suffocate on the way or are killed by Ukrainians while emerging to the surface — new ones will be sent. A Pipeline Route To Russian Glory

Mobilized Ilyasov was sent crawling toward Ukrainian positions through a pipe.

Russian tactics: man as expendable, pipeline as direction.
