“This will not end tomorrow. It will not end in a week”: Ukraine is trying to cut Crimea off from Russia. Here is what is happening there. A Meduza report
On Friday, June 26, a state of emergency was introduced in Crimea. Shortly before that, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov promised that in the near future the Armed Forces of Ukraine would cut Crimea off from Russia and turn the annexed peninsula into an “island.”
These are not empty threats: Ukrainian strikes on Crimea have proved very painful for Moscow; the peninsula already has almost no gasoline, problems with electricity supply, and a ruined tourist season.
