The Russian Supreme Court declared the “International Public Movement Memorial” an extremist organization and banned its activities on Russian territory.

The Memorial Human Rights Defense Center noted that no organization with the name specified in the lawsuit exists.

“Usually, the authorities begin persecuting participants in any initiatives associated with the banned ‘movement.’ That is, all ‘Memorial’ organizations will come under attack,” the human rights defenders suggest.

🟠 In December 2021, Russian courts liquidated the Memorial Human Rights Center and International Memorial.

🟠 At the time, prosecutors accused the Memorial Human Rights Center of supporting protests, as well as of disinforming citizens and creating a distorted view of the state through its list of political prisoners. International Memorial was accused of distorting historical memory and creating a “false image of the USSR.”
