A teacher from Kharkiv who had come to visit her parents has died in pretrial detention in annexed Crimea

The news was announced on the social media pages of the Kharkiv language school Professional, which Alexandra Kazarovitskaya (Kolesnikova) co-founded.

“She was killed by Russia,” the post says.

According to the post, Kazarovitskaya came to Sevastopol in the summer of 2026 to help her parents sell their apartment and move to Turkey, where she and her husband had recently been living.

The teacher was detained after authorities found correspondence with a volunteer dating “back to the beginning of the full-scale invasion.”

Kazarovitskaya spent three months in solitary confinement awaiting trial. Her colleagues said Russian authorities attributed her death to suicide.
