Russia has seized hundreds of hotels in occupied Ukrainian territories. One hotel owner is refusing to give up and is demanding compensation
Russia is forcing Ukrainians to obtain Russian citizenship to retain ownership of property in the occupied territories; otherwise, it will be declared “ownerless.” There are more than 7,000 such “ownerless” properties in the Zaporizhzhia region, including 521 hotels and resort complexes. According to Reuters, Russian companies and government bodies have already taken control of at least 77 hotel properties in occupied parts of the Zaporizhzhia region.
Ukrainian businessman Denys Katiukha owned the Admiral hotel on the coast of the Sea of Azov. He went to court in Ukraine, which ordered Russia to pay him $5.1 million. But Katiukha does not expect to recover his losses anytime soon.
