Teen who hung hammers covered in fake blood outside the doors of Roskomnadzor employees sentenced to two years in a juvenile penal colony. He said he was tortured

Moscow’s Preobrazhensky District Court sentenced a minor to two years in a juvenile penal colony for hanging hammers covered in fake blood outside the apartments of three Roskomnadzor employees in April this year. Verstka found the verdict in the court’s records.

The document does not disclose the names of the agency employees outside whose doors the hammers were hung, but it does list their positions and the apartment number of one of them. Based on this information, Verstka was able to identify the Roskomnadzor employees — all three hold senior positions.

They are Alexander Zaveryachev, head of the organizational development and information technology department; Tatyana Deniskina, head of the department for permits, control and supervision in mass communications; and Maxim Prytkin, head of the department for control and supervision in communications.

The verdict shows that the court accepted the teenager’s testimony from the preliminary investigation, given immediately after his detention. In it, the minor said he knew Roskomnadzor employees lived in the apartments in question. On that basis, investigators added the classification “motivated by hatred and hostility toward a social group” to the charges against him.

The minor later said he had been tortured and recanted that testimony, saying he had not known who lived at the addresses he visited. A review was even conducted on that basis, but investigators found no signs of “impermissible investigative methods” and declined to open a case for abuse of official authority.
