After airlines, European newsrooms have begun receiving bomb threats
On November 6, newsrooms in Ireland and Bulgaria received emailed bomb threats sent in the name of “Mikhail Andropov,” Reuters reports.
Emails titled “Message to the West” were sent to the Bulgarian television channel Nova TV and the Irish public broadcaster RTÉ, which evacuated employees from its office. The email described the threats as “a prelude to a series of attacks on Europe’s transport system.”
British television channel Sky also said it had received a message containing a security threat.
At the same time, airlines in the Czech Republic, France, Denmark and Italy received similar threatening messages. As a result, dozens of planes were forced to make emergency landings. No explosive devices were found on board. Reuters says the person who signed the messages as Mikhail Andropov also claimed responsibility for these false threats.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said Europe appeared to be facing “hybrid aggression and a form of psychological warfare.”
