The outlet has also published their names.

All these service members were included in the full list of those killed in the war, but Mediazona had not previously counted them as a separate category.

According to the outlet, the largest number of conscripts died during the Ukrainian armed forces’ incursion into the Kursk region in August 2024. At least 60 people died that month.

Conscripts also regularly die in shelling by the Ukrainian army.

In addition, Mediazona knows the names of almost 700 people who signed contracts while serving as conscripts.

“As a rule, we cannot determine whether this decision was voluntary. For now, we do not count them as a separate category and count only conscripts, but this may change in the future,” the outlet notes.
