Learning English in Russian schools is “creeping subjugation to the West” and a “threat to sovereignty,” State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlyov said. According to the lawmaker, foreign ideas and culture are being imposed on children along with the language.
“They instill this kind of soft power in you. Like, ‘Here, look, English.’ If it’s in Russian, well, that’s low-class crap, but if it’s in English—then you’re already great,” Zhuravlyov explained on NTV.
