Finland wants to build anti-tank barriers on its border with Russia, following Ukraine’s example
Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki, commander of the country’s ground forces, told Bloomberg about the plan. He said Ukraine had used such fortifications to slow the enemy’s advance, and neither Russian nor Ukrainian forces have yet learned to overcome these obstacles effectively.
Finland shares a 1,340-kilometer border with Russia, accounting for roughly half of NATO’s entire land border with Russia. The country cannot prevent Russia from rearming, but it is seeking to convince the Kremlin that an attack on Finland would be doomed to fail, the general said.
