Kushner proposed using the NATO-Russia Council as a model for future talks on European security

Jared Kushner, the U.S. president’s special envoy and Donald Trump’s son-in-law, proposed using the NATO-Russia Council as a model for a new security architecture in Europe.

The Washington Post columnist David Ignatius reported the proposal, citing a source familiar with the negotiations.

The NATO-Russia Council was established in 2002. Its purpose was to develop cooperation and coordinate military and political actions between Russia and NATO member states. The council’s most recent meeting took place in January 2022

European politicians said they were ready for dialogue with Russia but would agree to discuss the security architecture only after a ceasefire agreement had been reached between Russia and Ukraine, Ignatius writes.
