The fuel crisis keeps hitting the economy: shipping gets more expensive, police hunt resellers, regions impose new limits

The consequences of the gasoline shortage are beginning to extend far beyond gas stations.

▶️Logistics companies are already raising cargo transport rates by 5-10%. The reason is rising fuel costs, the cancellation of discounts for carriers, and long lines at gas stations.

▶️Some carriers are changing delivery routes for cargo from China, sending trucks through Kazakhstan. Because of the fuel shortage and lines at gas stations in Russia's eastern regions, trucks' daily mileage has dropped from 600-700 to 500 kilometers.

▶️In Irkutsk Region, where a high-alert regime is in effect, police have begun hunting gasoline resellers. One of those detained is accused of selling fuel for 250 rubles per liter. At the same time, Interior Ministry officers have switched to round-the-clock duty at gas stations to enforce the ban on selling gasoline into canisters.

▶️Restrictions have also been introduced in Yakutia. At state-owned gas stations, no more than 30 liters of gasoline are dispensed into a car's tank, and the sale of fuel into canisters has been completely banned.

The fuel crisis has already stopped being just a motorists' problem. Now it is beginning to affect shipping costs, and that means the prices of almost all goods delivered by road as well.
