The court rejected defense lawyers’ appeals against the extension of the detention of Sretensky Seminary graduates Denis Popovich and Nikita Ivankovich, who are accused of attempting to assassinate Metropolitan Tikhon (Shevkunov).

The preliminary investigation in this case has already been going on for more than a year, and new charges continue to be brought against them in order to keep them in custody.

At the same time, there are serious inconsistencies in the case materials. For example, traces of one of the defendants’ DNA appeared on the explosive device when he was already being held under administrative arrest. And the second defendant, if the FSB’s forensic examination is to be believed, re-hid this explosive device before he made it.
