Cosmetics brand CHA U KAO fined under the law on “LGBT propaganda” over an ad featuring Alexey Zhidkovsky
NUOLAB, the owner of the CHA U KAO brand, was accused of “LGBT propaganda” on the internet. The court imposed a fine of 2.5 million rubles, reports Mediazona.
The protocols were drawn up over product cards on Wildberries and Ozon. The protocol stated that the age rating on the cards was 12+.
According to SOTAvision, the protocol was drawn up after the Safe Internet League informed on an ad for lip glosses featuring the brand ambassador, blogger Alexey Zhidkovsky. According to the expert assessment, the ad “stimulates interest in transvestism among minors.”
▶️ What happened in court
The company’s representative asked for the case materials to be returned to the police, but the judge refused. The defense also petitioned to summon the author of the expert assessment for questioning in court and to order a new psychological and linguistic assessment (the company was dissatisfied with the volume of materials and the research methodology). The court rejected all the motions.
The company did not admit guilt. In the defense’s view, commercial advertising in itself does not constitute an offense, and the prosecution’s conclusions are not supported by sufficient evidence.
