Today, Yerevan will host the summit of the European Political Community, which will be attended by the leaders of 48 European countries, as well as Canada.
The European Political Community is a platform for political and strategic dialogue about the future of Europe, created after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. In essence, it is a venue for coordinating policy aimed at strengthening the security, stability, and prosperity of the entire European continent.
This year it is Armenia that is hosting the summit, although not so long ago the country was a member of the CSTO. Armenia finally realized how illusory Russia's allied commitments were after Moscow and the CSTO left it without support during the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. Unfortunately, this in no way prevented Russia from recruiting Armenian citizens for the war against Ukraine; if anything, quite the opposite.
At present, we have personal data on at least 994 Armenian citizens who signed contracts with the Russian Armed Forces. In terms of the scale of recruitment, the country ranks in the top 8 countries from which the largest numbers of foreigners have been recruited. At least 204 of them have been killed or gone missing. This is more than the country's losses in the Third Karabakh War in 2023. Two Armenian citizens and about a dozen ethnic Armenians are currently in Ukraine with the status of prisoners of war. According to data from the "I Want to Find" project, the project has received 621 requests to search for missing Armenians.
These are enormous numbers for a small country. And it must be understood that without active counteraction from official Yerevan, the Kremlin will only increase the pace of recruitment. If in 2023, 83 Armenian citizens signed contracts, then in 2025 already 575 did. For Moscow, this is not only a tool for replenishing losses in the Russian Armed Forces, but also a factor of destabilization and pressure on Armenia, which is striving for European integration.
It must also be remembered that Russian recruitment is not only a problem for Russia's neighbors and African countries. According to the data we have, citizens of 23 out of 27 EU countries have fought or continue to fight in the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces. Of the 48 countries at today's summit, 38 have citizens under contract in Russia's army.
In total, we know the personal data of more than 28,000 foreigners from 135 countries around the world recruited by Russia for the war. Several hundred of them, who are citizens of 48 countries around the world, are now in Ukraine with the status of prisoners of war. #mercenaries\Russian\Armed\Forces
