Ivan Lyubshin from Kaluga, who served time over a comment about the FSB bombing, was detained while trying to fly from Minsk to Yerevan. A new criminal case has been opened against him

On the evening of May 1, Lyubshin was detained at Minsk airport, from where he was planning to fly to Armenia in order to emigrate to France. He was later taken to Kaluga, where he was jailed for 12 days under a report for petty hooliganism. Lyubshin himself told OVD-Info this.

🟧 The man was supposed to depart at midnight, but two hours before the flight he was detained by Belarusian border guards. They handed him over to the local police, and the next day he ended up with KGB officers. They took him to Russia, after which Lyubshin was detained by Kaluga operatives.

🟧 A criminal case was opened against the man for evading administrative supervision (Part 1 of Article 314.1 of the Criminal Code). On May 3, Lyubshin was questioned by an inquiry officer. He gave a confession.

🟧 The Kaluga resident fears that he may be accused of trying to travel to Ukraine, something the security officers talked about. He provided them with all the documents related to his plans to emigrate to France. Lyubshin told OVD-Info that his French humanitarian visa had already been approved and that he was supposed to pick it up at the embassy in Yerevan on May 6. He had also already bought a ticket from Yerevan to Paris and booked a hotel.

🟧 A search was carried out at Lyubshin’s home. He noted that FSB officers were present during it. He was also made to sign a pledge not to leave Kaluga Region. The inquiry officer handed him a summons requiring him to appear before her today, May 4, at 10 a.m.

🟧 Lyubshin was unable to come because the security officers still have not released him. Instead, they drew up a petty hooliganism report against him (Article 20.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). He was accused of swearing in a public place and not responding to remarks from passersby. Lyubshin says that from the moment he was handed over to the Russian security officers, he was constantly under their surveillance.

🟧 The man was taken to Kaluga District Court. There he learned that the case materials included testimony from a certain witness. That person claimed that the Kaluga resident had been swearing in the entrance hall of the building at 294 Moskovskaya Street. This building houses an MFC, and the neighboring one used to house Center "E."

🟧 In March 2025, Lyubshin was released from prison. After that, he was required to remain under administrative supervision for another 8 years: to report regularly to the police, not leave home at night, and not leave the region without permission from the security officers.

The case over the comment about the bombing at the Arkhangelsk regional FSB directorate

In 2020, Lyubshin was sentenced to 5 years and 2 months in a penal colony on charges of justifying terrorism. He was convicted over a comment in which he called 17-year-old Mikhail Zhlobitsky, who carried out an explosion in the building of the FSB directorate for Arkhangelsk Region, the “hero of the week at the very least.”

“I meant that he had become a news hero. They twisted it as if he were a ‘hero overall’,” the man said later.

Lyubshin said that after his detention, FSB officers tortured him with a stun gun and beat him, and also threatened to kill him and bury him in the woods.
