The U.S. extended permission to buy sanctioned Russian oil
The Trump administration has extended until May 16 a waiver that allows other countries to buy Russian oil, Reuters reports.
The U.S. Treasury Department’s waiver allows the purchase of Russian oil and petroleum products that have already been loaded onto vessels. It extends a 30-day waiver that expired on April 11 and does not apply to transactions involving Iran, Cuba and North Korea, the agency writes.
🔵Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had said that the licenses temporarily allowing purchases of Russian and Iranian oil would not be extended.
