War. What is happening on day 1589. Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi believes that Russia will try to attack Ukraine from the territory of Bryansk Region. The war through the eyes of Meduza readers. Today we are publishing Tanya’s letter

The most terrifying realization for me during the war is that life goes on. Spring gives way to summer, children finish school, people get sick and recover, get married and divorced, grandmothers and grandfathers grow old, and I am growing up, and everything keeps moving forward in its unshakable course.

People have to live their lives, have to take exams, have to look for work, have to keep living… And I feel that I do not understand how to live in the new reality, I feel that I cannot adapt and find my place in this world, and I am very, very scared.

I thought that after so many years of war my anger would give way to apathy, but I have been consumed by disappointment, fear, and some kind of very heavy sadness that, like a dementor, sucks all happiness out of every day.

And yes, I go around, I smile, I look for work, I go on dates, but inside I am a living corpse. I do not know how one can come to terms with the fact that the old, kind world I knew has disappeared and everything has been turned upside down, that there are wars everywhere and innocent people are dying. That all opportunities have been taken away, and apparently I will not even be able to show Europe to my future children, and they will not be able to go there to study on exchange.

But life goes on, flowing in its usual course.
