By decision of President Vladimir Putin, Russia is announcing a ceasefire in the war with Ukraine. It will last for two days, May 8 and 9, 2026, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"We expect the Ukrainian side to follow this example," the Russian military agency emphasized.

At the same time, if Ukraine tries to disrupt the Victory Day celebrations, Russian forces will "deliver a retaliatory, massive missile strike on central Kyiv," the Defense Ministry added.
