The StraightForward Foundation, which supports independent Russian-language nonfiction, has been added to the register of “undesirable organizations”

On July 24, 10 new organizations were added to the “undesirable” register on the Justice Ministry’s website, including our friends and colleagues at StraightForward Foundation.

StraightForward Foundation has for more than two years been helping a wide range of authors — historians, journalists, sociologists — write uncensored nonfiction books about what is happening in Russia and publish them in different languages.

Together with StraightForward Foundation, we have already published:

✽ “Ours Is the Business of Death” by journalists Denis Korotkov and Ilya Barabanov;

A major investigation into PMC Wagner and Yevgeny Prigozhin. Its authors spent eight years assembling an archive of internal documents from Wagner and Prigozhin’s Concord holding company, and also spoke with actual mercenaries.

✽ “Temple of War” by historian Ilya Venyavkin;

A book about nine very different public figures — from propagandist Margarita Simonyan to satirist Mikhail Zadornov — whose ideas and actions helped Putin prepare Russians for the attack on Ukraine.

✽ “House on the Line of Fire” by journalist Dmitry Durnev

The full history of Donbas in the 21st century through the eyes of a witness — from economic prosperity to the puppet “DPR” regime in 2014 and the destruction of the region by Russian troops in 2022.

✽ ✽ ✽

And that is far from all — there will be new joint books ahead! And to our colleagues at StraightForward — our full support.

Uncensored Books Make the Wrong List

A foundation backing uncensored Russian nonfiction was put on the undesirable register.

Truth got filed as a threat again.
