“Uncle sang the way the people sing...” Instead of drafting a party platform, United Russia apparently decided to reread War and Peace

There are less than two months left until the State Duma elections, but the ruling party still has no platform. Meduza has already written that because of the war, the fuel crisis, and economic difficulties, United Russia decided not to adopt a platform several months before the vote (which will take place from September 18 to 20): some of its points could become outdated. That is why the platform will become known only a month before the elections, a party source told Meduza.

For now, regional United Russia branches have been sent a brand book that they are supposed to use when designing campaign materials for local candidates. The document also shows the design of campaign materials for federal-level campaigns. True, they decided not to work too hard on the text component: instead of reasons to vote for UR, the party platform, and other texts, the brand book contains the same excerpt from Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace:

Uncle sang as the people sing, with the full and naive conviction that in song all significance lies only in the words, that the tune comes of itself, and that there is no separate tune, but that the tune is there only for the sake of form. That is why this unconscious tune, like the song of a bird, was extraordinarily good in Uncle.

Meduza special correspondent Andrey Pertsev studied the brand book and explains what UR’s billboards, leaflets, and brochures will look like.

United Russia Has Finally Sent a Brand Book to the Regions

Meduza has obtained the brand book that regional branches of United Russia are supposed to use when designing campaign materials for local candidates. The brand book also shows the design of campaign materials for federal-level campaigns.

They Replaced the Platform With Layout

Two months before the election, the party sent regions a brand book, not a platform.

The message was outsourced to design.
