Russians’ discontent with the authorities’ actions has reached the level seen during mobilization

The authorities’ actions over the past month caused dissatisfaction and outrage among 31% of Russians — this is the highest figure since mobilization was announced in 2022, according to data from the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) published on July 3, as noted by Vyorstka.

According to FOM, the same figure of 31% during the war in Ukraine was recorded only once before, on October 9, 2022 (mobilization was announced on September 21). At the same time, before the start of the full-scale invasion — on February 13 — discontent was higher, at 34%.

In addition, 36% of Russians said they had heard critical remarks about the Russian authorities from people around them. This figure is the highest in the past 12 months, close to the numbers from the first months of the war, and has been steadily rising for the third week in a row.

According to FOM, 55% of Russians noticed anxiety among people in their circle — this is the highest figure since mobilization was announced in 2022. Back then, the figure was 70% and dropped to around 50% only by the end of the year. Since then, it has risen above 50% only once — in May 2023, after major AFU strikes on oil infrastructure in southern Russia and the start of the open conflict between Wagner PMC head Yevgeny Prigozhin and the Defense Ministry leadership. During the mutiny itself, anxiety remained below 50%.

At the same time, for the first time in the entire war, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s approval rating has fallen below 50%. His work was rated positively by 49% of respondents, while 36% found it difficult to answer. At the same time, according to FOM, Vladimir Putin’s trust rating, which a week earlier had fallen to 69%, recovered to 71%.
