This may sound strange, but I’m very happy about the fuel crisis. Even though I, like everyone else, depend on fuel and will get up at 4 a.m. to fill up in advance before work. But I’m genuinely glad that Zelensky found a sore spot and pressed on it. At last, Muscovites, and most of Russia too, have understood that this is their war as well. That it affects everyone. That Putin is real evil, not just some made-up old man on a screen against the backdrop of the winter Kremlin once a year.

But with joy comes sadness. Sadness not because there’s no gasoline, but because neither the news about the war, nor the deaths of thousands of people, nor Navalny’s death had the effect on people that the absence of something as simple as a liter of 95 octane has achieved. But thanks even for that. I hope that all those who have only now started criticizing the tsar, and only because of gasoline, will not forget it by the time of the elections.
