The country’s leading architecture school began recruiting students to serve in the BARS unit defending Moscow from drones

It was Novaya Gazeta Europe that drew attention to the report about this, which appeared on July 2 on the website of the Moscow Architectural Institute (MARCHI).

Students are being offered a one-year contract with the volunteer formation of the Country’s Combat Army Reserve (BARS) “Moscow.” The unit’s main task, according to the announcement, is to protect Moscow from drone strikes. MARCHI says that this status is “equated to a military service contract.”

Service will take place only in Moscow and the Moscow and Kaluga regions, training will last 21 days, and then students will go on combat duty on a three-days-on, three-days-off schedule. For this they are promised 200,000 rubles and additional payments “for each enemy UAV shot down.”

MARCHI itself promises guarantees for the families of BARS participants. These include free education for children in Moscow colleges and universities, priority enrollment in kindergartens and schools, monthly child payments, subsidies for housing and utility bills, assistance for elderly parents, and help with spouses’ employment.

The students themselves are promised the opportunity to transfer from paid tuition to state-funded places.
