Journalist Darya Shipacheva sentenced to 12 years in a penal colony on treason charges
This was reported by correspondents from «Медиазоны» and «Осторожно, новостей» from the courtroom of the Moscow City Court.
What exactly the science and medical journalist was accused of is unclear because the trial was held behind closed doors. T-invariant claims that Shipacheva was charged over a money transfer to Ukraine — the journalist was born there.
A friend of Shipacheva said in a conversation with «Медиазоной» that she “does not know whether it was a transfer to the [Ukrainian] army.” Her relatives say it was a transfer to a civilian.
🔹Darya Shipacheva was detained on April 23, 2025; security forces came to her home and “started battering the door.” After that, contact with her was lost — from neighbors, friends learned that “a crowd of OMON riot police had burst in” on Shipacheva, «Медиазона» writes.
At first, Darya was taken to Rostov-on-Don, where a court placed her in pretrial detention, and before the start of the trial she was transferred to Lefortovo. «Медиазона» writes that Shipacheva made a deal with the investigation.
🔵Shipacheva worked in science and medical journalism. She collaborated, among others, with RBC, Lenta.ru, Takie Dela, Forbes, and Wonderzine. She also wrote the book No Panic and hosted the podcast Life Is Pain. Before her detention, she complained about attacks from supporters of the “Male State.”
