The number of successful Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries reached a historic record in May

The Financial Times, citing data from the Polish analytical group Rochan Consulting, writes that the number of successful Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries reached a historic monthly record in May: 16.

And since the start of 2026, Russian oil refineries have been struck at least 194 times, which is 11 times more than in the same period of the previous year.

Analysts explain the growing success of Ukraine's drone campaign by a significant increase in production volumes as well as improved command and control.

U.S. intelligence also played a role, helping Kyiv determine optimal drone flight paths and bypass air defense systems, senior Ukrainian officials told the publication.

🔹Official data from Russia's Defense Ministry show that in the first six months of 2026, at least 63,933 drones were intercepted over Russian territory and the occupied part of Ukraine.

At the same time, half of all claimed interceptions occurred in the last two months. The Russian Defense Ministry said it shot down 14,195 drones in May and 17,832 in June.

🔹According to Ukrainian data, the total number of Russian missiles and drones launched at Ukraine has exceeded 5,000 a month since February.
