Finland will not send a delegation to the Venice Biennale because Russia has returned there

Finland has become the first country to reduce its participation in the Venice Biennale after Russia announced its own project for the first time since the start of the full-scale war with Ukraine.

According to ARTnews, this was announced by Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture. The ministry emphasized that, in its view, Russia should not take part in the Biennale “while Russian aggression against Ukraine continues.”

Finland’s Minister of Education and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie added that some officials will still attend the Biennale to support Finnish art and culture. However, there will be no official delegation from Finland at the Biennale. The exhibition in the Finnish pavilion is still scheduled to take place.
