Monument to war participant to replace Polish exiles memorial
In Yakutsk, a monument to a participant in the war with Ukraine will be installed on the site of a demolished memorial to Polish exiles
At the intersection of Poyarkova and Kurashova streets in Yakutsk, a monument will be erected to Dmitry Yegorov, who died in 2023.
“We are preparing the site and the foundation. The contract was signed last year. Concrete and finishing work is nearing completion. The monument has already been produced in Krasnoyarsk with non-budget funds; now the issue of purchase and delivery is being resolved,” said the city’s chief architect.
Since 2001, this site hosted a memorial to Polish exiles—scientists and researchers who were deported to Yakutia and later made significant contributions to studying the Yakut language and culture. In spring 2023, the monument was fenced off, and soon the name plaques disappeared. In September, the stones were removed to an unknown location.
