Novaya Gazeta journalist Roldugin’s arrest extended by two months. He partially admitted guilt

This decision by Moscow’s Tverskoy District Court is reported by Mediazona.

“He partially admits guilt. He states that he did indeed collect data through the Sherlock bot. The collection and storage were carried out through a messenger. He did not consider this to be illegal. Had he known, he would not have done anything like this. He did not join a group of persons and acted entirely alone,” the judge read out.

Investigators asked that Oleg Roldugin remain in custody, arguing that he “committed a serious crime,” has accomplices, and could go into hiding.

“Given my family circumstances, my disabled parents, my children, in such conditions to think that I could go into hiding says more about those who think so than about me,” the journalist said.

Roldugin’s lawyer, Marina Andreyeva, asked for the arrest to be changed to a more lenient preventive measure.

“The crime imputed to him is not violent in nature; he did not kill or maim anyone. And finally, it is simply cruel: Roldugin has a serious eye injury, his wife does not work, and his family has been left without means of support,” she noted.

🔵Novaya Gazeta journalist Oleg Roldugin is charged under paragraph “v,” part 3 of Article 272.1 of the Russian Criminal Code: “Unlawful access to computer information” as part of a group of persons. At Novaya Gazeta, he published investigations into Ramzan Kadyrov’s entourage and into the creators of the Max messenger.

🔵He was violently detained on April 9, and his home was searched. On April 10, he was arrested for one month as a suspect.
