Pussy Riot Stage Protest at the Venice Biennale
Pussy Riot activists staged a protest in support of Ukraine and Russian political prisoners outside the Russian pavilion at the Venice Biennale, the outlet reports.
The protest involved activists in balaclavas with smoke bombs and placards bearing the slogans: "Enjoy the show, ignore the war," "Curated by Putin, dead bodies included," and "Art for show, graves below."
A correspondent for the outlet said the participants in the protest tried to break into the Russian pavilion, but were not allowed through by "people in uniform."
🔵Russia is taking part in the Venice Biennale for the first time since 2019. During the official run of the biennale, from May 9 to November 22, the Russian pavilion will be closed to the public.
Earlier, Ukraine expressed protest, and the European Commission said that Russia's participation in the exhibition violates the sanctions regime. The Biennale was stripped of a grant of about two million euros. The Biennale's international jury resigned.
