Kadyrov Says His Run in the Chechnya Head Election Is "Forced"

Chechen Parliament Speaker Magomed Daudov said that delegates to the 42nd conference of the regional branch of United Russia supported Kadyrov's nomination for the post of head of Chechnya.

He said the decision was made unanimously and "reflects the people's high level of trust" in the current head of the region.

Kadyrov himself said he is running in the election "by force of circumstances":

To be honest, I'm not happy that I'm going into the election. If you ask me, I would choose another candidate, because this is a huge responsibility, and I know how difficult this task is.

Today, you could say, I am being forced to go into the election.

🔹The election for head of Chechnya will be held on the single voting day, September 20, 2026.

🔹Kadyrov has effectively ruled Chechnya since 2007.
