Yekaterinburg authorities say installing plaques in memory of victims of repression violates city rules

This is stated in the recommendations for placing memorial plaques on the facades of buildings in Yekaterinburg, the outlet Vechernie Vedomosti writes.

In the city of Yekaterinburg, there is unauthorized installation on building facades (including those designated as cultural heritage sites) of informational plaques commemorating the memory of victims of political repression and associated with the "Last Address" campaign,

the document says.

The document also states that placing the plaques “violates the provisions on the procedure for assigning names to toponymic objects and changing the names of toponymic objects” of the city.

It is claimed that the text on the plaques is supposedly hard to read, and that their placement on building facades “is random in nature.”

🔵In 2025, the legality of the plaques bearing the names of the repressed in Yekaterinburg was checked by the local prosecutor’s office. Law enforcement demanded that some of the plaques be removed.
