Ramzan Kadyrov has been nominated for another term. He says he’s not happy about it


Ramzan Kadyrov has been nominated by United Russia as a candidate in the upcoming election for the head of Chechnya. The decision was made unanimously at a conference of the party’s regional branch in Grozny, TASS reported.


Kadyrov himself said he was “not happy” about the decision and is running “out of necessity”: “If you ask me, I would have chosen another candidate, because this is a great responsibility, and I know how difficult this task is.”


Ramzan Kadyrov has led Chechnya since 2007. In the last election for the head of Chechnya, held in 2021, Kadyrov received 99.7% of the vote, according to the Central Election Commission.
