Saxophonist Andrey Shabanov Attacked in Penal Colony
Over the weekend, the musician reported that Alexey Kryslov, the quartermaster of one of the units at Samara IK-10, poured hot tea on him and struck him on the head with a stool. Shabanov had his injuries documented at the medical unit.
According to Mediazona, the attacker is a former Russian serviceman who was convicted in Chechnya in 2024 for failing to obey an order.
Kryslov has now been sent to a punishment cell, and he has also been removed from his position as the unit’s quartermaster.
But the problem of restrictions on Andrey Shabanov’s rights has still not been resolved. In custody, the musician is facing pressure from other prisoners. He is forbidden from sleeping on a bed and using the kitchen, and he is also being threatened with a beating.
At the same time, Andrey has a Group II disability. He has progressive psoriasis and arthritis. He said that in custody he is “rotting alive” because he is not receiving the treatment he needs.
