The moment when a bipartisan group of senators came out to the press together with Zelensky before the procedural vote on the Graham-Blumenthal sanctions bill (it passed by an overwhelming 86:12, an extremely rare display of unity in today’s Senate, notes The Hill).

I just want to capture this.

In the front row in photo 2 are the most active senator მხარდ supporting the bill together with Zelensky. From left to right: Katie Britt (Rep), Richard Blumenthal (Dem), Jim Risch (Rep), Roger Wicker (Rep), Jeanne Shaheen (Dem).

The same five are with Zelensky in photo 3, in a different order.

Thanks to them and the other 81 senators who voted in favor. This is not the final vote yet, but it is already clear that nothing will stop the bill’s passage in the Senate. We will be waiting for the House in September.

Rare Unity Finally Reaches the Floor

Senators appeared with Zelensky before the vote, and the bill passed 86:12.

Senate unity now counts as news by itself.
