IOC Temporarily Lifts Suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee

This decision is connected to the fact that the Russian Olympic Committee no longer includes sports organizations in territories that fall under the jurisdiction of Ukraine’s National Olympic Committee.

The International Olympic Committee also said that its recommendations regarding the admission of Russian athletes to competitions are no longer current. Decisions on whether to allow or bar athletes from Russia will still be made by international sports federations and tournament organizers.

This decision was commented on by Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev:

“The IOC Executive Board has repealed its decision of March 28, 2023, with recommendations on the participation of Russian athletes in neutral status and the ban in team sports. All neutrality checks for Russian athletes have been canceled. The IOC has lifted its ban on holding international competitions in Russia. Athletes returning to the international arena will temporarily be tested by the ITA (International Testing Agency) until RUSADA is reinstated; this process is already moving full speed ahead.

As of today, more than 20 international sports federations allow juniors to compete under the Russian flag and with the national anthem, and 10 federations allow all athletes without restrictions. The IOC’s decision will significantly speed up this process,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
