Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov went on a tour of African countries. This happened against the backdrop of growing public outcry and resistance from African governments to the recruitment of their citizens into the Russian army.

Lavrov's first stop was Ethiopia, which Russian recruiters have not bypassed either. Taking this opportunity, we are publishing a list of 34 Ethiopian citizens who signed contracts with the Russian army and took part in combat operations against Ukraine. We have reliable information about the deaths of at least three of them.

Obviously, these are far from all the Ethiopian citizens recruited into the ranks of the occupation army. This figure reflects only confirmed losses. The real number, given the scale of the Russians' recruitment network on the African continent, is much higher.

As a reminder, in total we know the personal details of 2,984 Africans from 40 countries on the continent who signed contracts with the Russian Armed Forces. Of them, the deaths of almost every sixth have been confirmed. In African countries, relatives of those missing and killed after being sent to Russia regularly hold actions and rallies, demanding that the authorities help bring their loved ones back. And this is producing results: pressure on the Kremlin has led the Russian Defense Ministry to stop or significantly reduce recruitment in 14 countries on the African continent.
