Russian servicemen have long shown an unhealthy fixation on elaborate methods of killing off their own personnel. After Operation "Pipe" in Sudzha, sending infantry into trunk pipelines became wildly popular, literally turning them into "meat pipelines."

Vladislav Kostin ("Thirteenth") from Tula region is another such "chimney sweep." Before the full-scale war, the man had been to occupied Donbas, first as a "volunteer," then as a serviceman in one of the "LNR" units. But whereas in 2016 he could still leave the service and return home, from 2022 onward everything became very different.

In the fall of 2022, Vladislav was mobilized into the 15th Motor Rifle Regiment. Until 2024 he successfully sat in the rear, until they began involving him in combat missions. To dodge it, he decided to break his own arm, but only made things worse: via a regiment of "recovering" soldiers he ended up in the border area in Kursk region. There, the Ukrainian offensive started to make him "lose his mind," and Kostin deserted. But hiding out at home did not work out, they caught him and transferred him to the assault troops.

The new unit greeted "Thirteenth" with a cannibalistic combo: the task of going 15 kilometers through a pipe and planting a flag at the designated point in territory not controlled by Russian troops. No one was bothered by the fact that getting out to the surface meant death:

"The average lifespan after exiting the pipe was 5-10 minutes"

His fellow servicemen literally shoved him and his partner out under Ukrainian drones: the "Motherland" had ordered them to die! But Vladislav not only survived, he also managed to reach Ukrainian soldiers and quite willingly surrender to them and tell them how being sent into a pipe ends for the overwhelming majority of Russian servicemen.
