One of Russia’s oldest entertainment portals, Yaplakal, has been banned in Russia

Moscow’s Chertanovo District Court has declared the entertainment portal Yaplakal banned in Russia; Verstka found the corresponding ruling in the court database.

The case was considered under the category “On recognizing informational materials as extremist”, although the ruling itself does not say that the portal was assigned that status.

The district prosecutor’s office demanded that the portal be banned. According to the documents, staff from the agency conducted an inspection of compliance with legislation in the sphere of interethnic relations, during which they found the site yaplakal. com and two other joke portals.

“Pages on the specified internet resources contain materials (humorous content in text format) with statements that can be classified as degrading human dignity, as well as aimed at discriminating against and insulting people on the basis of nationality and race,” the prosecutor’s office said.

Which specific materials are being referred to is not specified. In the end, the court agreed with the prosecutors’ arguments, and on April 23 the information on all three sites was recognized as banned. At the same time, as of the publication of this news, the sites had not yet been added to Roskomnadzor’s register.

💜Yaplakal is one of the oldest and most popular entertainment portals in the Russian-language segment of the internet. In 2020, the site was added to the register of information dissemination organizers (ORI) and was required to store information about all user actions and their correspondence and, in the event of requests from security service officers, provide that information upon request.
