Books about Pavel Durov have started being pulled from sale in Russia

Nikolai Kononov’s book “The Durov Code” about Telegram founder Pavel Durov has started being pulled from sale in Russia, Verstka noticed.

In particular, both parts of the book (“The Durov Code. The Real Story of VKontakte and Its Creator” and “The Durov Code 2: Telegram, Global Power and Dangerous Freedom of Speech”) have disappeared from the LitRes service. At the same time, they still appear on the author’s page, but the links to them do not open.

The page for the first part of the book was last saved in the web archive on June 19. At least at that point, it was still available.

A Verstka source at LitRes confirmed that the book had been pulled from sale. At the same time, the source did not specify why this happened, saying only that “possibly this is connected to the recent events, and possibly not”.

The books “The Durov Code” have also disappeared from Yandex Market, although they were there the day before. They are also absent from the Ozon and Wildberries marketplaces.

The page for the first part of the book is still on the website of the MIF publishing house, but it cannot be bought there. In the Chitai Gorod store it is “sold out,” the website says. The second part of the book can still be bought on the website of the Alpina publishing house for now. It is also available in the Chitai Gorod store, but in a “small” number of copies.

🩵On July 30, Telegram founder Pavel Durov was added to Rosfinmonitoring’s list of persons involved in terrorism and extremism. A day earlier, the FSB said that he had been charged under the article on assisting terrorist activity. After that, marketplaces told Ostorozhno, Novosti that they would check products related to Durov, including books.
