Russian propagandists themselves listed the UN documents that Russia violates by illegally recruiting foreigners.

That is correct. On the second day of the Russian invasion in 2022, Ukraine created the International Legion as an official structure within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Most foreigners join the AFU for ideological reasons: they are volunteers ready to stand against the aggressor and help Ukrainians defend their country. None of them were forced under threat of prison, or deceived with promises of construction jobs. This is the conscious choice of free people.

They see Russian strikes on hospitals and schools, cities wiped off the face of the earth, murdered women and children. They feel anger or compassion, buy tickets, and cross the border. They sign a contract consciously, knowing where they are going.

On the other side is Russia. Here, foreigners are deceived with promises of work, citizenship, money. Their documents are taken away, and they are pressured through fear of deportation. They are scooped out of prisons and migration centers, recruiting men from poor countries of the world where a person is already used to the idea that his life is worth nothing. A North Korean soldier runs through a minefield on the orders of his regime; he has no illusion of choice at all. They are expendable material for the Russian army.

People like the deceived Nigerian Bankoli Machi, Ugandan Richard Akantoranu, Filipino Raymond Humangan, Azerbaijani Farid Shafibekov, or dozens of Indians. Even citizens of China, whom Putin calls strategic allies, are routinely deceived by Russian recruiters.

If we are talking about citizens of Central Asian countries, Russia’s closest neighbors, the treatment is even worse. During raids, migrants or people with expired documents are detained. At police stations they are threatened with prison or deportation and offered an “alternative”: a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense. Investigative Committee chief Bastrykin personally boasted that they “caught and sent to the front line” (yes, that is exactly how he spoke about people) tens of thousands of foreigners.

Kyrgyzstan citizen Alisher Tursunov was caught that very way when he came to visit his son in Ryazan. At the police station he was beaten until he signed a contract.

An Uzbek from Kyrgyzstan, Avazbek Artykbaev, got into a traffic accident, and Russian police “helped”: either prison, or a contract and deployment to the war.

The governments of Jordan, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, India, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Peru, Cameroon, Botswana are already openly talking about the problem of Russian recruitment; that is how large this problem is.

Ukraine, fighting for its survival, is forced to accept help from those who came voluntarily. Russia, despite having a huge population, still keeps looking for someone to use, deceive, coerce. Trick convicts, put cripples and people with AIDS in formation, deceive foreigners. Any sin at all, as long as it finds people willing to stand on the side of murderers and occupiers. That is the entire Putin regime.
