Andrey Trofimov is serving a sentence for anti-war publications and has been out of contact for four months already. Help find him!

Andrey Trofimov is a civic activist and political prisoner. He openly spoke out against the war, and because of that he was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Since April 2026, Andrey has stopped making contact. The administration of Penal Colony No. 9 in Karelia is not passing letters to him and is not sending out his replies. Lawyers are not being allowed to see him, and short visits are also being refused. For several months now, Andrey's loved ones have been unable to find out whether he is okay and what is happening to him.

According to colony staff, Andrey supposedly "does not want to maintain contact with anyone." His loved ones are certain this is not true. Even in custody, Andrey kept up correspondence, remembered every person he was writing to, spoke freely, and did not stop reflecting on what was happening. That is exactly why his sudden and prolonged silence is so alarming.

How can you help in the search for Andrey Trofimov?

His support group has launched a campaign whose goal is to find the political prisoner. The idea is to send several appeals to state bodies asking them to conduct an inspection and take measures to stop the violation of Andrey's rights. It's simple to do:

Step 1. Copy the text of the appeal at this link. It is better not to change the template. The text was drafted by lawyers so that the appeal would be correct and would not raise questions from the agency. This increases the chance that the complaint will be considered on its merits.

Step 2. Send the appeal to five authorities. They include the Prosecutor General's Office and the Human Rights Commissioner. You will find the full list of authorities and instructions for sending here.
