A court in Poland released Anatoly Blinov from pretrial detention; he is accused of attempting to attack Leonid Volkov. He spent almost two years in custody

Two years is the maximum allowable detention period under Polish law. Despite this, prosecutors demanded that Blinov remain in custody, arguing that he could flee.

In total, Blinov was charged in five episodes. These are the organization of attacks on Leonid Volkov in Vilnius and New York, the attack on Aleksandra Petrachkova, the wife of economist Maxim Mironov, the arson of the SHIZO installation in Vilnius, as well as the intention to use forged documents.

According to the prosecution, Blinov committed all the crimes on the orders of the same person. His name was mentioned only in the closed part of the proceedings. Earlier, sources in the Polish media reported that the prosecution had concluded that Blinov was “inspired” by Leonid Nevzlin, one of the former owners of Yukos.

Correction. The original note said that Blinov had been transferred to house arrest. In fact, he was released under police supervision. The editors apologize to readers.
