Businessman Andrey Melnichenko transferred 32 billion rubles to the Sirius foundation when the prosecutor general’s office tried to confiscate his assets — The Economist

One of Russia’s richest people, Andrey Melnichenko, donated 32 billion rubles in 2023 to the Sirius educational center, created on the initiative of Vladimir Putin.

According to The Economist, Melnichenko made the donation after the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office began trying to confiscate Sibeco, a company linked to him. Two months later, the prosecutor’s claims were dropped.

As The Economist notes, 32 billion rubles is approximately the amount that Melnichenko and his entities paid for Sibeco many years ago at the time of its purchase.
