Victory Day parades on May 9 will not be held in a third of the capitals of Russia’s regions. In another 37, they will take place without military equipment or with other restrictions

Parades with marching units and moving ground equipment on Victory Day will be held in less than a quarter of the 85 administrative centers of the regions (including annexed Crimea and Sevastopol), Verstka calculated.

In some regions, this was explained by security measures, while elsewhere the parades were canceled without broadly informing the public of that decision.

Thus, events with a military march and a vehicle procession (even if these are retro cars or old tanks still in working order) will take place in only 18 regional capitals (21.2%). For example, in Yaroslavl, Volgograd, Khabarovsk, Krasnoyarsk, Penza, Ufa, Gorno-Altaysk, and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

In 27 (31.8%) capitals, they explicitly refused to hold a parade, or, without separate announcements, simply did not include it in the list of events. Among them are the border cities of Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk, Rostov-on-Don, the annexed Simferopol and Sevastopol, as well as Oryol, Krasnodar, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Kaluga, Gatchina (the administrative center of Leningrad Oblast), Nizhny Novgorod, Veliky Novgorod, Salekhard, Naryan-Mar, and Magadan.

In another 37 (43.5%) regional capitals, the parades will take place either without military equipment (in some regions they have been held this way for several years already), or without confirmation of its participation, or with other restrictions.
