At least 3,500 foreigners have been killed fighting for the Russian army
These figures are contained in a named list of the dead being maintained by the BBC Russian Service together with Mediazona.
According to the analysis, 3,589 people from more than 40 countries have been killed.
The deaths of 1,285 were confirmed using open sources, while data on 2,304 soldiers from North Korea was established by the BBC Korean Service on the basis of satellite images and photographs of a military memorial in Pyongyang.
