Krasnodar resident convicted over an image of Putin portrayed as a penis with a St. George ribbon dies in prison

Inmate Vladimir Yarotsky from Krasnodar, according to preliminary reports, took his own life on the night of May 7 in Correctional Colony No. 9 in Kuban, the Telegram channel "Politzek-Info" and the outlet SotaVision reported. Earlier, Yarotsky had complained about pressure from the prison administration.

The court sentenced Yarotsky in May 2025. He was found guilty of rehabilitating Nazism and spreading “fake news” about the army.

The case against him was prompted by posts on Yarotsky’s VKontakte page. One of the posts was an image showing Vladimir Putin with a bow in the shape of a St. George ribbon and an artist painting his portrait. But on the artist’s canvas, instead of Putin, there is a penis with a St. George ribbon.

Yarotsky is the seventh political prisoner to die in custody since the beginning of 2026, SotaVision and Important Stories note.
