Soviet repression researcher Oleg Novoselov detained in Sverdlovsk region
Soviet repression researcher Oleg Novoselov has been detained in Sverdlovsk region; he is accused of "assisting" terrorism
This was reported by 66.ru, citing a source.
The regional courts' press service told the outlet that the historian is in custody. Novoselov has also been added to Rosfinmonitoring's list of terrorists and extremists.
The details of the case are unknown.
Oleg Novoselov is an activist and the author of the channel "Repressions in Sverdlovsk," where he wrote about Stalinist terror and published archival documents. For many years, he has been studying documents on Soviet repressions in the State Archive of Administrative Bodies of Sverdlovsk Region.
In September 2025, he said that Russian archives had begun refusing researchers access to the files of rehabilitated victims of political repression. Archive staff told Novoselov that back in March they had received an order from Rosarkhiv not to release the files of repressed people without proof of kinship.
