Nikolai Daineko, a defendant in the "Mayakovsky case," has been released from prison colony

29-year-old poet was released today from Correctional Colony No. 4 in the Vladimir region.

He will remain under administrative supervision for eight years. He is prohibited from leaving Moscow and the Moscow region, changing his place of residence, and must report to his local police officer twice a month.

🟧 In May 2023, Daineko was sentenced to four years in a penal colony under articles on inciting hatred and calls for anti-state activity.

🟧 The poet entered into a pretrial cooperation agreement, which usually means that the defendant agrees to assist the investigation in exchange for a lighter sentence.

🟧 Artem Kamardin and Yegor Shtovba were sentenced under the same articles to seven and five and a half years in a penal colony respectively.

The "Mayakovsky case"

The case against the young men was opened because of their participation in the "Mayakovsky Readings" in September 2022.

Because of the poem "Kill me, militiaman" that Kamardin recited, they were accused of inciting hatred toward "participants in military actions in the LPR and DPR".

The anti-state activity charge was brought against the young men because, according to the investigation, in his poems Kamardin called on people "not to take" draft notices from the military enlistment office and "not to show up" in response to them. Investigators called Shtovba and Daineko accomplices because they "repeated Kamardin's piece aloud and raised their hands up".
